DETROIT HOLIDAY MARKET

Detroit Holiday Market
Steel Frame Modular Pop-Up Retail Units
THE CHALLENGE
Hired by Bedrock Detroit and the Gilbert Family Foundation, Groundswell Design Group turned to ROXBOX for a modular solution for Detroit’s annual Holiday Market. In previous years, the market relied on flimsy tents and fabric igloos, but the Bedrock team sought a more durable, visually appealing, and vendor-friendly alternative—one that could be easily transported to and from Detroit’s city center each holiday season.
THE SOLUTION
With this vision in mind, ROXBOX partnered with Groundswell to design and build eight versatile, steel frame modular retail units. Initially, the client considered using shipping container structures but ultimately opted for steel frame units, which offered a larger footprint and greater flexibility for vendors. Featuring custom wood cladding and a 10-foot-wide retail space, the structures seamlessly complemented the market’s festive aesthetic while providing vendors with spacious, heated interiors for a comfortable and functional workspace.
Beyond the holiday season, these mobile units are repurposed for a variety of uses, including co-working spaces, farmer’s markets, and other community activations, maximizing their adaptability and value throughout the year.
